Myth: Only overweight men get male breasts
Fact: Being overweight may contribute to Gynecomastia, but it’s not the only fact. Gynecomastia has no particular age group that it targets, nor does the body type matter to it. Even the fittest men who have rock hard chest may have man boobs that they find difficult to get rid of. Gynecomastia is mostly attributed to hormonal imbalance and quite a few other facts.
Myth: Exercise will make this go away
Fact: Man boobs that firmly take a spot on a man’s chest will be unresponsive to exercise and diets. The glandular tissue is often firmer or hard and may be tender. The glandular tissue will remain unaffected till it is eliminated by surgery.
Myth: The surgery is painful and the recovery is long.
Fact: You will experience discomfort that can be associated with any surgery. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. Post-surgery you will be given pain medications to help you deal with any discomfort. In short, the pain will be manageable and you will also be able to resume your daily routine in 2-3 days. You can return to work within a week but strenuous activity will take at least 2 to 3weeks.
Myth: If I have the surgery, I won’t be able to work out for months
Fact: Not true. You can return to exercise and start working out 4 to 5 weeks after the surgery. While during recovery strenuous activities aren’t allowed, we have patients who have completed marathons 9 days after Gynecomastia surgery.
